A 30 GHz slot array with artificial dielectrics to enhance radiation characteristics

In this work, we present a design of an array of cavity backed slots in the presence of an artificial dielectric superstrate to enhance the scan range. Spectral domain representations are used for the analysis of the leaky waves propagating within the stratification. The artificial dielectric superstrate loaded cavity supports leaky waves that can be optimized to enhance the gain in a specific angular region or to enlarge the array fieldof- view. By controlling the amplitude and phase of the antenna elements, the proposed concept is used to realize an adaptive array, that can reconfigure its radiation pattern.
