Description
At the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, The Why Factory at TU Delft and Federico Díaz present BIOTOPIA, a speculative vision for a living, evolving planet. Selected for Carlo Ratti’s main exhibition, Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective, the installation imagines cities as forests, architecture as living bio-matter, and urban infrastructures as regenerative systems shared by humans and other species. At its centre is the idea of a global Sponge: an adaptive material ecology able to cool, filter water, generate energy, shelter life, and renew itself. BIOTOPIA is presented through two linked elements: the Biotopia film, directed by Winy Maas and produced by The Why Factory, and Federico Díaz’s Propagative Structures installation, inspired by biomimetic systems and mangrove roots. Together, they propose a future in which architecture is no longer merely built, but grown, decomposed, and regenerated as part of planetary life, through biology, technology, and collective intelligence.| Period | May 2025 → Nov 2025 |
