The ‘Career prospects’ tags of our faculty’s website state that graduates from the Master Tracks of the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment will move into positions in architectural, project development, landscape architecture, urbanism, planning and engineer firms, or into government agencies. Others will pursue education and research positions, or work in business supply, housing corporations and contracting and project development sectors. Graduates may also opt for an academic career and continue their studies at the doctoral level, whereas others will opt to begin their own businesses...Despite the clarity of those prospects’ descriptions, in this edition of the BK Talks, moderated by Master Track student Ifrah Ariff, we want to expand on them and, also seek alternative paths to design careers. Do we talk enough about becoming communication experts, graphic designers, type designers, tender specialists, photographers, journalists, editors, curators, artists, event managers or wayfinding experts?
The aim of this edition of the BK Talks is to bring together a group of design graduates and to discuss with students topics ranging from the numerous occupations architects and designers can have, to the realities of entrepreneurship, to the working conditions graduates will encounter upon graduation or to the salary they will receive.
