Description
This two-day seminar, part of the field trip to Milan of the Architectural Design Crossovers MSc2 studio (AR0167), explores the transitional territories of East Milan shaped by mobility infrastructures, deindustrialization, and evolving urban policies.Through site visits, expert lectures, and multidisciplinary dialogues, the event brings together architects, urban designers, scholars, and institutional stakeholders to critically engage with large-scale transformations and design-driven opportunities within this complex metropolitan context, stretching between the railway and the ring road infrastructural system.
The first-day seminar took place at the headquarters of Milano Serravalle Milano Tangenziali – motorway concessionaire of the Ring Roads in Milan – with contributions from managers and technicians on visions, strategies and innovative interventions to re-imagine the ring roads of the future, for a more sustainable relationship between the infrastructure and the city, in a perspective of urban regeneration through sustainable mobility. Speakers included Giovanni Belgenio, Mario Brugnoli, Alessandro Torrini, Chiara Bianchimani and Damiano de Gennaro, addressing topics from infrastructure and urban transformation to hydrogen-based sustainable infrastructure and safe and secure truck parking areas.
The second day took place at Politecnico di Milano, Department of Architecture and Urban Studies, with a guided visit of the Architecture Campus, including the Renzo Piano Archives, followed by a studio workshop bringing together the field trip's observations with the ongoing design work of the MSc2 studio.
