Activity: Talk or presentation › Talk or presentation at a workshop, seminar, course or other meeting
Description
This workshop aims to introduce the process of biofabrication, i.e. the production of materials from biological organisms, for product design. We will use mycelium (i.e. the ‘root’ system of fungi) to grow bio-based composites from waste materials and design meaningful product applications with them. The workshop will combine hands-on approach, making and simulating the growth of materials, and the use of research data to inform the design process. Students will be asked to design products that harness the collaboration between humans and living organisms, between ‘nature’ and ‘man-made’. The main goal of the workshop is to reflect upon the ‘aliveness’ of materials and what design opportunities this brings for product design.
