Human Centric Isochrone in the 15min station district Workshop

Activity: Talk or presentationTalk or presentation at a conference

Description

We challenged the participants to define together the study area of Ruggles Transit station at Roxbury from a people centered approach. The workshop was part of the Design Research Society (DRS) conference DRS2024 Boston, which is jointly hosted by Northeastern University, Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The workshop "The Human-Centric Isochrone: Redefining the Station Study Area," lead by the PhD researcher Halina Veloso e Zarate and organized by Complex Projects - Activating Design Research Group at TU Delft, challenged conventional data-driven methods for defining station study areas through the lens of human experience in and around a public transportation station. Participants engaged in missions around Ruggles Station to gather experiential data, creating a human-centric isochrone map. The half-day session included a city walk, data collection, and collaborative mapping, culminating in a discussion on the implications of human-centric versus geographic data-driven isochrones. The workshop aimed to provide insights into human-centered, co-creative design approaches and redefine urban design practices by integrating human experiences with geospatial data. Outcomes included a human-centric isochrone map, innovative manners to map experience of the user in the transport node and methodological contributions to ongoing data-supported design methods research.
