Organizing invited virtual session: Sustainable Design of Intelligent Transport Systems at the IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics 2021.

Sustainable Design of Intelligent Transport Systems brings together the importance of sustainability in the transport systems with the adoption of advanced technology in the unit level design, as well as the system level implementation. Transport systems sustainability is typically measured by the system efficiency, as well as the environmental impacts of the system. Sustainability aspects include the vehicles/machines used for road or water transport; the source of energy; and the infrastructure (roads, railways, waterways, canals and terminals). Intelligent Transport Systems integrate sensor technology, information processing and control into the transport system design. The benefits include energy efficiency, effectiveness, lower environmental impact, and economic progress. The aim towards “impactless” transport systems relies in the advances in mechatronics, and adoption of intelligent technology in the design process.
