Description

innovating tomorrow’s travel experiences (plenary openings lecture at the conference)

Artificial Intelligence will be ‘normal’ in a few years. So, your flight is personalized based on digital input. This means a completely different flight experience. A kind of uber (automated driving) or train brings you to the airport and if there is a delay of the flight, this bringing to the airport is adapted automatically. Boarding is different. Your suitcase is picked up earlier and you can track where the suitcase is and when it arrives at your hotel (or other destination). In case you want to carry your own suitcase, the new airplane has an area in the front next to the entrance door where you can place the heavy luggage and one of the heaviest jobs (loading suitcases in the belly of the aircraft) is eliminated and the passenger is sure his luggage is in the airplane. Your hand luggage is scanned and AI calculates what the best way is of loading it in the bins, which is shown by electrolumniscent foil in the bin. When a passenger approaches his or her luggage spot, that specific part of the bin turns lighter
This system is already tested (Vendel et al., 2019) and it also speeds up boarding as the luggage is close to the seat. Light guides you to the right seat (Akkerman, 2017).
Your seat is selected based on previous preferences and emotional experiences in previous seats by AI (we can record now already nine emotions by face reader (Bartkiene et al., 2019)). So, you have the seat that fits best to you.
You sit in staggered seats, which means not sitting shoulder to shoulder and having your own space at the arm rest (see fig below). This has also been proven effective and more comfortable (Liu et al., 2021)
The backrest can recline 130 degrees which has been proven enough recline for a good nap (Vink et al., 2023)
New technology (vibration/light/temperature etc) is available (realitymgmt.com) to get you into sleep and awaken you and make you energetic after sleep, which can be ordered when booking your flight.
For passengers with special needs, the wheelchair rolls easily into the frontdoor and fits in the lavatory and the first row seats are available and the wheelchair can be placed in the luggage compartment accessible as its next to the front door. For visually impaired people a sound system guides you to the hand luggage space and seat.
