Description
At the Latin American Researchers Day 2024, Halina presented her PhD research titled "Integrating Carbon Data across Design Scales." The presentation focused on the critical role of data-supported design in creating sustainable urban environments, specifically addressing the challenges of incorporating environmental data, specifically carbon data, in early-stage design processes for rapidly growing urbanization. With urban populations projected to rise by 60% by 2050, this research investigates how low-carbon design methods can enhance the integration of data, software, and skills across architecture, urban design, and data sciences. Through empirical studies with Dutch architecture firms, this PhD highlights key bottlenecks in integrating data in early design processes and proposes a nine-step roadmap for effective carbon data integration in design workflows, taking transport nodes as a cross-scale design case study.
