Description
The process of de-peasantisation has not only resulted in change of the social fabric of rural areas, but has also contributed to social practices of land use that do not fit with current challenges, relating to climate change, biodiversity, use of resources and results in issues of healthy living. Within the EU context, these challenges have been addressed by the Green Deal, which aims to transformation of living and working in the EU towards meeting the challenges indicated above. The current paper reviews the outcomes of the HORIZON 2020 project ‘RURALIZATION The opening of rural areas to renew rural generations, jobs and farms’ and discusses whether the perspective of a ruralisation of rural areas can go hand in hand with meeting the Green Deals targets.This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 817642.
