Shared learning experience: Design-enabled joint value creation

Activity: Talk or presentationTalk or presentation at a conference

Description

This 90-minute shared learning experience aims to collec􀆟vely explore how members of projects executed within the urban fabric can more systema􀆟cally approach their joint value crea􀆟on process to increase the sustainability, livability, and resilience of ci􀆟es. The experience is designed around the use of a novel design method that is founded on a transdisciplinary understanding of value, exis􀆟ng design for value methods, and an inves􀆟ga􀆟on of value crea􀆟on processes of 100 transdisciplinary crea􀆟ve consor􀆟a that focus on societal missions in urban contexts across Europe. Par􀆟cipants will gather in three groups of mul􀆟disciplinary backgrounds. In these groups, par􀆟cipants will develop a strategy for a project scenario that will be provided, using physical tool materials. Each group will engage in a slightly different experience to work with for approximately 50 minutes. In this experience, par􀆟cipants will learn to 1) dis􀆟nguish between different types, levels, and 􀆟me horizons of value, 2) iden􀆟fy tensions between values from a comprehensive stakeholder perspec􀆟ve, and 3) develop a value crea􀆟on strategy based on key values and key value tensions that play a role in their project. A􀅌er the main ac􀆟vity, the experiences and insights of the three groups will be exchanged in a moderated plenary session. This will provide par􀆟cipants with shared learning on how they can approach joint value crea􀆟on in their real-life projects, and different perspec􀆟ves of how exis􀆟ng as well as the proposed new design method can support them. Insights of the session will also be used to further develop the method and accompanying tool in close collabora􀆟on with AMS, the Resilient Delta Ini􀆟a􀆟ve, and the Del􀅌 Design for Values Ins􀆟tute. Par􀆟cipants in this session can include but are not limited to researchers, designers, engineers, developers, policymakers, government employees, entrepreneurs, ac􀆟vists, students, and ci􀆟zens. The experience is open to par􀆟cipants of any project that addresses a societal mission in an urban context and does not require any experience with or knowledge of design and joint value crea􀆟on.
