Description
This video is about social rental housing, with a particular focus on the Netherlands. It starts with a brief overview of social housing within Europe, in order to put the Dutch social rental housing model into a broader perspective. After that, the characteristics and the historical development of the Dutch social rental housing system are discussed in more detail. It will become clear that in the last decades, the Dutch social rental sector has been subject to shrinkage, re-regulation and residualisation.
Currently, the challenges that Dutch housing associations face are bigger than ever. There is a huge housing shortage, housing affordability is under pressure and there are strong, but also very expensive, ambitions for making the sector more environmentally sustainable.
