Tirana and Kamza: the planned, the unplanned, and everything in between

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventParticipation in workshop, seminar, course

Description

Workshop held in Tirana (Albania) at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism (FAU), as part of Writing Urban Places, a project funded by COST Association Network. The workshop explored the tension between the planned city of Tirana and other urban areas consolidated over time by Albanese migrants from rural areas looking for better opportunities in the city. The outcome of the workshop were a series of short films which explored urban narratives, people's stories, and the unequal dynamics of power.  These exploratory narrative forms applied into architecture, and accessible to larger audiences, are able to raise awareness giving space to people's voices. They offer alternative approaches that reveal a collective sense of identity and belonging that potentially could enable other city imaginaries.
