Description
This networking event brought together partners and stakeholders who have organised Urban Thinkers Campus (UTC) to assess the positive impacts of the UTCs. UTCs have been organised in all regions of the world since it was first launched in October 2014 on the theme ‘The City We Need’, in the City of Caserta, Italy. UTCs are spaces for partners & stakeholders to campaign and bring awareness, as well as to negotiate principles, policies, and action planning on key issues that need to be addressed at the Habitat III Conference and built up in the New Urban Agenda. The UN-Habitat World Urban Campaign (WUC) invited partners and its members to organised UTCs to bring awareness of NUA and its implementation. UTCs have since been recognised as an open space for critical exchange between urban actors who believe that urbanization is an opportunity and can lead to positive urban transformations. To date, more than 300 UTCs have since been organised by different partners and stakeholders across the 4 regions - at local and national levels.
After the adoption of the New Urban Agenda (NUA), UTCs have focused on raising awareness of the NUA and its implementation including monitoring commitments made by the governments - national, regional and local levels.
This Networking event discussed the impact of UTCs and the gains from them and the future of such platform as an effective space for creating real traction on the implementation of NUA, and opportunities to push for advancement of specific track such as gender equality and women's empowerment and public-private partnership for sustainable urban development.
