ERC Consolidator Grant to investigate ways to further improve the resolution towards 1 nm in the field of optical nanoscopy

Press/Media: Public Engagement

Description

Dr. Bernd Rieger has been awarded with a Consolidator Grant by the European Research Council (ERC). During the next five years he will receive funding in the amount of 1.9 million euros for his research.

Dr. Bernd Rieger / Optical nanoscopy
Last year the field of optical nanoscopy received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for a breakthrough in resolution from around 250 nm down to 25 nm. Dr. Rieger will now investigate ways to further improve the resolution towards 1 nm. The impact of this advance is that this enables imaging of biomolecules at the scale of the molecules itself with a light microscope and fluorescent labels attached to the biomolecules.
