Literary chameleon Felix Salten

Press/Media: Public Engagement

Description

An exhibition has been dedicated to Felix Salten at Vienna City Hall and the Wien Museum since 15 October 2020. The occasion is the 75th anniversary of the death of the journalist, writer, screenwriter, director, critic and art connoisseur, who was known as a notorious pencil pusher. Felix Salten has been somewhat forgotten and is mainly associated with the catchphrases "Bambi" and "Josephine Mutzenbacher". However, his authorship of the latter pornographic novel cannot be proven. Salten's eventful life has now gained a certain topicality through the work on his estate and can be seen as a mirror of the cultural events in the metropolis of Vienna around 1900. Felix Salten was a jack-of-all-trades who had his fingers in every pie.
