Tailor-Made Approach to Faculty Collections Programme

Press/Media: Other

Description

The aim of the Tailor-Made Approach to Faculty Collections programme is to professionalise the maintenance and use of the many historical collections at TU Delft. This involves examining which collections have heritage value, identifying objects that can be used in teaching, and what other needs different faculties may have, such as exhibitions or a timeline with the history of education and research. The conditions, wishes, and possibilities are different for each collection and faculty, which is why bespoke (“Tailor-Made”) support is provided. To this end, a process has been drawn up, and for each collection or faculty the parties involved will examine exactly how this process will be organised and identify the focal points. The programme supports the faculties and, in addition to well-managed collections, sustainable policy, and interesting presentations, also provides services from the Library.

DescriptionFor the past three years, the Tailor-Made Faculty Collections programme has been supporting the faculties of TU Delft in closing the backlog in the management of their collections. The Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment has been a pioneer in the field of collection management and therefore served as a pilot for the programme. After completing the inventory, registration, valuation, and selection process, the focus has shifted in the past year to the use and management of the collections. Over the past few months, as part of the Tailor-Made program, we have been working on additions to the presentations, which we would like to highlight.

DescriptionIda Falkenberg-Liefrinck was one of the first women in the Netherlands to establish an independent career as a designer. This elegant and lightweight chair, designed by her, is a favourite in the Faculty of Architecture’s Chair Collection. As part of this collection—originally established as a study resource for design education—the chair remains a relevant example for contemporary designers.
