Wang-Erlandsson, who grew up in Sweden, became involved in this area of research when she worked as a volunteer at the annual World Water Week conference in Stockholm. De in Zweden opgegroeide Wang-Erlandsson raakte bij het onderzoek betrokken toen zij vrijwilliger was bij de World Water Week die elk jaar officieel wordt geopend in Stockholm.
