Personal profile

Research profile

I am an Assistant Professor in the Cognitive Robotics Department at the Delft University of Technology, where I am leading the Haptic Interface Technology Group (HITLab). I am also a guest scientist in the Haptic Intelligence Department at the MPI for Intelligent Systems, where I was previously a postdoctoral researcher. I earned my Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Koç University (Istanbul, Turkey) in January of 2018. Before my Ph.D., I worked as a control engineer at TNO Additive Manufacturing Department in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. I received my M.Sc. degree in Systems and Control at the Eindhoven University of Technology in 2012, and my B.Sc degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Sabanci University (Istanbul, Turkey) in 2010.

My research focuses on leveraging our knowledge of the human sense of touch to create natural, compelling, and personalized haptic interactions in virtual environments. I investigate physical contact between our skin and natural surfaces/haptic interface technologies, and perceptual experiences arising from this contact, as well as emulation of natural touch sensations via haptic interfaces. I am interested in using this knowledge in communication, medicine, education, and human-robot interaction applications.
