Research profile

Aashna is a researcher in serious gaming at the faculty of Technology, Policy and Management at TU Delft. Her research focuses on the design and use of serious games to engage stakeholders and support their decision-making. Primary interests are in serious gaming, stakeholder engagement, and behavioural interventions for climate adaptation. She is passionate about transdisciplinary research and finding new ways to work with stakeholders and ensure that scientific research is linked to real-world problems. Her skills span qualitative methods such as serious game design and facilitation, interviews, stakeholder analysis, policy analysis, and conceptual systems modelling.

Aashna has an interdisciplinary academic background spanning engineering, liberal arts, and policymaking. Her PhD research (2020-2025) focused on developing serious games to increase awareness of urban climate adaptation solutions at the household and neighbourhood level.  Prior to that, she graduated with a master’s (cum laude) in Engineering and Policy Analysis from TU Delft in 2019.

She has co-developed three serious games:

(1) AgriLemma – aimed at increasing awareness of agricultural actors about water retention and nutrient recovery solutions as part of the EU Horizon 2020 project WATERAGRI (https://wateragri.eu/serious-gaming-2/),

(2) SuDSbury – aimed at increasing knowledge and awareness of urban residents about sustainable urban drainage solutions, and

(3) Urban dRain – aimed at bringing municipalities and residents in the Netherlands together to negotiate and co-develop a stormwater management plan for a neighbourhood.
