Claire Simpson is a PhD candidate in the Integral Design & Management section at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. Claire started her PhD at TU Delft on October 2024. Claire's research focuses on how digitalisation effects project work and teams in the field of civil engineering. The research is positioned at the intersection of project management, digitalisation and social science.
Claire has over a decade of experience working in the construction industry both in Ireland and overseas and has worked on large-scale projects in multidisciplinary project team environments. During this time, Claire specialized in Building Information Modelling (BIM) and has been lecturing on this subject area for the last 10 years.
Academic background
Claire completed an honours degree in Architectural Technology in 2013 at the Institute of Technology, Carlow, Ireland. Claire later went on to obtain a diploma in business management from Griffith College, Dublin, Ireland in 2015. Claire obtained a master's degree in Spatial Planning from Utrecht University in 2024. Claire's master thesis focused on assessing the performance and usability of urban digital twins.
Research interests
Claire's research interests include the digitalization of the AEC industry, digital twin technology and building information modelling (BIM).
