Research profile

Floris is a Dual PhD candidate in the Organisation & Governance section of the faculty of Technology, Policy and Management and at the department of Management Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. He is also a member of the AI Futures Lab.

In his research Floris is focused on the use of machine learning for supporting public decision-making. Specifically, he researches the development processes and the organizational implications of developing AI in public settings. He is interested in the complexity of that development process, the interactions between stakeholders at the core of that process and the ‘rules of the game’ that influence the behaviour of stakeholders such as developers and end-users. He studies this in the setting of public organizations such as inspectorates or similar executive agencies. With his research he wants to contribute to a more conscious development and use of machine learning in public organizations.

He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Policy Analysis and Management and master’s degree in Engineering and Policy Analysis from TU Delft. During his master programme, he spent an exchange semester at Politecnico di Milano. Before starting a PhD he followed the L.E.A.D. Programme, a one year traineeship from X!Delft, a part of the TU Delft valorisation centre.
