Biography

I hold an MSc degree in Artificial Intelligence from Utrecht University, and I have a background in philosophy and engineering. I wrote a thesis on using machine learning to predict depression from speech in an interpretable way.

Projects

I am a PhD candidate focusing on measuring resilience. As crises and disasters will be more frequent and severe in the face of climate change, there is an increased need for building resilience, in order to be able to bounce back from such disturbances. Of course, building resilience will be more effective if we have a view of what contributes to the capacity to bounce back, and what does not.

However, current resilience measurement methods are often simplified in such a way that the dynamical and nonlinear nature of resilience is not well incorporated. Therefore, my research will focus on the temporal dynamics of societies after a disturbance, to see if interpretable patterns can be described.
