Personal profile

Research profile

Inès Zaid is a PhD researcher and Junior Lecturer in the Department of Urbanism at TU Delft. Her research explores the long-term transformation of train station areas, focusing on how spatial morphology and movement patterns shape connected urban environments across temporal and spatial scales.

This research builds on over a decade of international experience as a senior architect and urbanist, notably at Berman Guedes Stretton and Architectural Design Partnership, working on civic and large-scale projects across the UK, USA, Luxembourg, and France. Her work has received national RIBA and RICS awards and been featured in AJ and RIBAJ. She applies this experience in teaching master’s students to integrate data-driven and analytical methods into design practice.

Research interests

Her research interests focus on the evolution of train station areas, particularly how spatial morphology and movement patterns influence their form, connectivity, and long-term functionality, and on approaches that link data-driven analysis with design reasoning.

Academic background

She holds a PgDip in Architecture, Professional Practice from Cardiff University, Wales, where she also earned the Part III ARB/RIBA qualification, researched “Strict zoning as a tool towards sustainable urbanisation,” and integrated codes, design, procurement, and stakeholder knowledge; a MArchD in Architecture specialised in Urban Design from Oxford Brookes University, England, where she reimagined Oxford train station as a vibrant gate of arrival, developing a re-design project enhancing pedestrian flows and multi-modal mobility into a transit hub, supported by her theoretical work on “walking as a method of research”; and a DEeA (BSc) in Architecture from École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Nancy, France, where she first developped her skills spatial, historical and morphological analysis and design.
