J. Akkerman

Joos is a PhD candidate at the Policy Analysis section of the Faculty Technology, Policy and Management. He uses agent-based computational economic models to study nonlinear dynamics in the economic exposure to climate-induced natural disasters, with a focus on floods and sea-level rise.

His PhD is part of the NWO VIDI project 'A Social Tipping Point: climate-resilient futures through transformational adaptation' under lead of Prof. dr. Tatiana Filatova, together with PhD candidate Thorid Wagenblast and Postdoc dr. Sofia Gil-Clavel. This project focuses on transformational climate change adaptation an its relation to social tipping points through the use of computational models to better inform climate adaptation policies.

Joos is een PhD kandidaat bij de sectie Beleidsanalyse van de faculteit Technologie, Bestuur en Management. Hij gebruikt agent-based computationele economische modellen voor het bestuderen van non-lineaire dynamieken in economische systemen die worden blootgesteld aan natuurrampen. Hier focust hij op overstromingen en zeespiegelstijging.

Zijn PhD is onderdeel van het NWO VIDI project 'A Social Tipping Point: climate-resilient futures through transformational adaptation' onder leiding van Prof. dr. Tatiana Filatova, samen met PhD kandidaat Thorid Wagenblast en Postdoc dr. Sofia Gil-Clavel. Dit project gaat over transformationele adaptatie aan klimaatverandering en de relatie met sociale kantelpunten. Hierbij wordt gebruik gemaakt van computationele modellen. Dit project biedt inzichten voor klimaatadaptatiebeleid.

Joos holds a BSc in economics from the University of Amsterdam and graduated cum laude for the joint MSc in Computational Science from the University of Amsterdam and Free University of Amsterdam.
