Biography
Jenna Iori is an assistant professor at TU Delft's faculty of Aerospace Engineering in the Wind Energy section. She conducts research on wind energy system design and operation under uncertainty, with a focus on numerical optimization and multi-disciplinary design methods.
Before joining TU Delft, she earned a PhD degree from the Technical University of Denmark on the topic of control co-design applied to wind turbines, exploring the relevance of integrated design methods for complex dynamic systems. She holds a MSc degree in Wind Energy from DTU and a Diplôme d'Ingénieur from École Polytechnique.
Expertise
Energy produced from wind is naturally impacted by the variability and uncertainty of this resource. As a result, the electricity produced by wind energy systems (wind turbines, wind farms, wind-based hybrid power plants) lacks reliability and robustness, which in turns leads to a variety of risks: grid stability, reliability of supply, revenue stream, etc.
In this context, my research work aims at mitigating the variability and uncertainty of the wind energy production. For this, I explore novel optimization methods for the design and operation of wind energy systems, with a focus on wind-battery hybrid power plants. From the design side, the multi-disciplinary nature of the system requires an MDAO approach, which in turns needs to be adjusted to take into account the uncertainties impacting the system. From the operation side, stochastic methods are required to include uncertainty and risk awareness in the decision making process.
