Research profile

Jeroen Hoving is currently working as a Director of Studies (0.4 fte) of the interfaculty 4TU MSc Construction Management and Engineering (CME), and as a Senior Lecturer (0.6 fte) in the fields of Offshore Engineering, Arctic
Technology and Solid Mechanics at Delft University of Technology.

In his capacity as a lecturer, Jeroen is responsible for the courses CIEM4120 Offshore Structures, OE44210 Offshore Structures Design Project and CIEM4302 Cold Regions Technology, and contributes to the course CME4150 Managing Uncertainty and Data. Throughout his time at the university, Jeroen has supervised close to 200 students during their MSc graduations, and Jeroen has regularly supervised students during their BSc-theses, as well as research internships, research and development projects and multidisciplinary projects.

From 2011 onwards, Jeroen has been involved in organisation of education. Between 2011 and 2019 Jeroen acted as coordinator for the Civil Engineering part, and as a member of the Board of Studies, of the interfaculty MSc Offshore & Dredging Engineering (ODE). During the academic year 2019-2020, Jeroen acted as interim-coordinator for the Offshore Engineering track of the European Wind Energy Master (EWEM). In 2022, Jeroen successfully completed the LDE Leergang Onderwijskundig Leiderschap, an educational leadership course jointly organised by Erasmus University Rotterdam, Leiden University and Delft University of Technology. And recently, Jeroen has obtained the Senior Examination Qualification (SEQ).

Next to delivering and organising education, Jeroen remains active in Offshore and Cold Regions related research and valorisation in application to offshore wind, offshore cranes and pile-driving. Research interests of Jeroen include wave propagation in (nonlinear) discrete and continuous systems as well as the non-smooth dynamical behaviour of solid media in frequency and time domain applications. Additionally, Jeroen works on physical and mechanical properties of ice in fresh- and seawater environments, and on static and dynamic interactions of sea ice and icebergs with offshore structures. Furthermore, Jeroen has been involved in projects regarding logistics and management of offshore installation and decommissioning operations.
