Katherine Song joined the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering in October 2024 as an Assistant Professor in the Knowledge and Intelligence Design (KInD) group within the Department of Sustainable Design Engineering. She is currently interested in the design of interactive electronics that integrate degradable, natural, and/or living materials. This involves the development of novel hardware architectures that center and cater to the unique affordances and needs of these unconventional materials, as well as of software tools to aid in the discovery and ideation of new kinds of hybrid interactive systems.
