Research profile

Dr. Luis Cutz is an assistant professor at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Large-Scale Energy Storage section of the Department of Process & Energy. He studied chemical engineering at Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala and then received his PhD from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), working with biomass thermochemical processes.

His research group focuses on developing thermochemical technologies to convert waste plastic/biomass into biofuels, chemicals or new raw materials. These products can serve for power generation, transport purposes, horticultural applications, energy storage applications or a source to manufacture new polymers. By using experimental research techniques, his group is able to improve the design of thermochemical processes and scale them up from simulation level to laboratory scale.
