Marion Tissier is an Associate Professor in the Coastal Engineering Section at Delft University of Technology.  She develops wave knowledge to assess coastal safety in complex coastal systems, under both current and future environmental conditions. Her core expertise is the role of waves in coastal hazards, in particular during extreme events where waves can drive flooding, beach and dune erosion, and impact coastal defenses. More specifically, she analyzes the nonlinear processes driving wave transformation towards the shore over a large range of coasts, from sandy coasts as found in the Netherlands to coral reef-lined coasts and analyze the effects of engineering measures on these processes. Combining field measurements, laboratory experiments and detailed process-based numerical modeling, she works on advancing the understanding of wave impacts during extreme conditions and developing new tools for coastal safety assessment.
