Research profile

dr. ir. Michaël Peeters MRE researches non-financial valuation, sustainable finance and quantum-inspired valuation and investment models at TU Delft.

Academic background

dr. ir. Michaël Peeters (also published as Michael Peeters) is an academic researcher at the intersection of sustainable finance, non-financial valuation, smart buildings, and quantum finance and Assistant Professor at Delft University of Technology (Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, Management in the Built Environment, Real Estate Management) in Delft, the Netherlands.
Peeters studies how sustainability, digital technology, and uncertainty change the value of the built environment. His work connects EU sustainability reporting (EU Taxonomy, CSRD, SFDR, CSDDD) to investment models such as discounted cash flow, real options, and quantum-probability methods. He is a RICS member and registered valuer (MRICS) with an engineering background in micro-electronics and a 2021 PhD in Engineering Management from the University of Antwerp, completed in a joint executive programme with Antwerp Management School.

Research interests

Peeters’ research programme asks how non-financial attributes become financially material in real estate and infrastructure decisions.
1. How should carbon, ESG performance, and smart-building data enter a DCF or real-options investment model without collapsing into a marketing label?
2. How can occupant behaviour, resilience, and social value be measured so they change capital allocation, not only reporting?
3. When conventional expected-utility models fail under ambiguity, can quantum probability and Hilbert-space representations improve valuation of conflicting attributes?
4. How should EU sustainable-finance rules (Taxonomy, CSRD, SFDR, CSDDD) be translated into asset-level cash flows and valuation parameters?
These questions sit in Management in the Built Environment, sustainable real estate investment, and econophysics / quantum finance.
