I joined TU Delft in 2025 as Assistant Professor for Ground-based Remote Sensing of Clouds. Previously, I was a postdoctoral researcher at Leipzig University (Germany). I obtained my PhD in Meteorology from Leipzig University in 2024.
My research is focused on microphysical processes in mixed-phase clouds, especially in mid- and high latitudes. I am particularly interested in ice formation- and growth processes, such as riming. Through my research, I want to understand their drivers as well as their role in the spatial variability of ice and snowfall.
I predominately work with observational data using a synergy of remote sensing and in-situ instruments and am interested in retrieval development using Optimal Estimation techniques. I am experienced with (polarimetric and multi-frequency) cloud radar from ground-based and airborne (aircraft and satellite) deployments. I am also interested in in-situ ice crystal and snowfall observations. My methods combine in-situ and radar data together with simulations of (rimed) ice crystals.
I hope to contribute to a better process understanding based on observational data, which is essential to develop better representations of the ice phase in models.
