Research profile

Netsanet is a first year PhD student in the department of SDE and research group of design for sustainability (DfS). Her research topic is on human centered design and utilization of AI for cervical cancer care in Sub-Saharan Africa context. The research focus is to those countries where the highest prevalence and death burden of cervical cancer occurred. Key value in the PhD project is to improve access to cervical cancer care services integrating HCD approaches and AI.

Academic background

Netsanet received her bachelor's degree in Information science (2018) and did her masters in Information and Knowledge Management (2021) both at Jimma University, Ethiopia. Her research interest is in designing AI-based models to solve a local problem where there are people who needs an equal access of resources and services. Netsanet designed a sign language recognition model for Amharic language for Ethiopian hearing impaired societies to help them creating effective communication with the normal hearing person as her masters project.
