CARB-HUB: Climate-Adaptive Resilient and Balanced Mobility Hubs

Prize: National/international honour

Description

The Dutch Environmental and Mobility Vision 2050 promotes climate-neutral urban growth around transit hubs, though construction-related CO₂ emissions pose challenges. Design professionals seek collaborative tools to integrate environmental goals into station development. CARB-HUB supports this by exploring design-led methods that address spatial, social, and ecological needs. Acting as facilitators, designers co-create strategies with stakeholders using the 4P value framework—People, Position, Place-making, Planet—and a Decarbonization Design Toolkit. These tools will be applied to key stations along the railway line Leiden-Dordrecht (OudeLijn), turning abstract climate targets into concrete, low-carbon, and accessible urban and architectural solutions for integrated station area development.
