I was awarded the competitive Peter Paul Peterich PhD Fast-Track grant for my PhD proposal titled "Variational Multiscale Methods for the Magnetohydrodynamics Equations". My research focuses on the incompressible magnetohydrodynamics equations, which describe the behaviour of electrically conducting fluids. These equations can be numerically expensive to solve and often exhibit numerical instabilities. To address these challenges, I utilise variational multiscale stabilisation techniques to mitigate numerical instabilities. Additionally, I combine these methods with adaptive refinement techniques to minimise computational costs.
