Strategic Monitoring of Atmospheric Threats using Enhanced Radar

Atmospheric threats such as heavy rain and hail, are responsible for millions of damages in the Netherlands every year. In SMARTER we will develop a more accurate, faster and flexible way of monitoring and predicting these threats based on adaptive radar sensing. Using artificial intelligence techniques such as reinforcement learning, we will give individual radar nodes the possibility to focus their attention on specific targets, and continuously adapt their configuration and scanning behavior in a coordinated fashion to respond to imminent threats.
