Architecture in Conversation: Connecting, Grounding and Improvising as a Response Strategy

Research output: Chapter in Book/Conference proceedings/Edited volumeChapterProfessional

Abstract

How does the architect answer, through design, the manifold questions, the complexity of the architectural task? An unambiguous concept and a specific visual language is no longer enough when it comes to responsible architectural decision-making. Today, perhaps the measure of success is rather linked to the manner in which the architecture constitutes a response. This essay considers several response strategies that address the changing conditions around the design process. It also considers the social context and various actors that play a role around the project (connecting), the situation, site specificity (grounding), and the unpredictable nature of the commissioning and design process (improvising).
