Chinese maritime education and research is booming

The Chinese government named the 21st century as the century of the ocean and selected the enhancement of the maritime and offshore industries as one of its key national strategies [1]. As a consequence, these industries have been booming and associated advanced education has seen significant growth over the last decades. To date, about 140 universities and colleges in China have set up maritime related bachelor and master programmes [2].
