Abstract

This chapter deals with the design of both integer and fractional-order controllers for precision mechatronic systems. System performance and robustness analysis in the frequency domain is studied using closed-loop sensitivity functions. Controller design along with rules of thumb is introduced followed by an analysis of the advantages of using fractional-order controllers and their design. A practical example is considered to highlight the advantages of using fractional-order controllers in precision mechatronics.
