Abstract

The seismic inversion problem is ill-posed, meaning we do not have enough information to achieve a perfect and unique inversion result. One of the main issues is that we probe the Earth from only one side, making our measurements incomplete. Next, the measurements are never fully sampled according to Nyquist' theorem in all five dimensions (source x-y, receiver x-y and time). This means we have to deal with the measurements we have.
