Abstract

Actively involving youth in the decisions that affect their lives is more than just an end in itself, it is a crucial means to achieve youth mainstreaming in local public services and policies. However, it remains challenging for local governments to achieve meaningful participation. Through a case study in Rotterdam (The Netherlands), this chapter explores how a design-based approach, rooted in design theory, can offer innovative insights into youth participation in local policy and reveal opportunities for change and improvement.
