Abstract

The experiment data available on 4-point bending experiments performed in Aus-tralia and Europe on tubular section beams are validated by FEA. Large scattering of available experiment results is investigated by detailed analysis of different geometrical imperfections. Loading set-up is analysed through modelling of welding induced imperfections. It is found that the welding induced imperfections lead to more accurate prediction of the local buckling failure modes and the rotation capacity than the traditionally modelled geometrical Eigen-mode imperfections. Also the influence of measured residual stresses is examined.
