Abstract

In deze bijdrage wordt de vraag aan de orde gesteld of Europese ruimtelijke planning, meer in het bijzonder het zogeheten Europees Ruimtelijk Ontwikkelingsperspectief (EROP) van 1999, een bijdrage kan leveren aan een heroriëntatie van het Europese investeringsbeleid, toegespitst op de Europese structuurfondsen. Allereerst wordt uitvoerig stil gestaan bij dit Europese beleid gericht op structuurversterking. Vervolgens wordt de bijna steelse opkomst geschetst van een Europese ruimtelijke planningpraktijk. Vervolgens wordt een schets gegeven van de doorwerking van het EROP in de huidige beleidspraktijk, zowel nationaal als Europees. Afgesloten wordt met een aantal conclusies en discussiepunten.
