Abstract

The paper studies melt pool evolution in nickel-based alloy as a function of the high-energy selective laser melting parameters. The influence of the geometric melt pool characteristics on the development of microstructure as well as on the formation of defects is investigated. Several laser processing parameters varying in volumetric and linear energy density were chosen. The shrinkage porosity was also studied, and its dependence on the process parameters, resulting density and microstructure were determined.
