Abstract
Me.thy.lo.ha.lo.mo.nad.al’es N.L. fem. n. Methylohalomonas, the type genus of the order; L. fem. pl. n. suff.-ales, ending to denote an order; N.L. fem. pl. n. Methylohalomonadales, order of the genus the Methylohalomonas.
The order Methylohalomonadales includes obligately methylotrophic bacteria from hypersaline salt lakes. They are moderately halophilic aerobes utilizing C1
compounds as energy and carbon sources via the serine cycle. The order forms a deep-branching phylogenetic lineage in the Gammaproteobacteria and consists
of a single family Methylohalomonadaceae and genus Methylohalomonas. The order-level classification was established by phylogenomic analysis based on the
Genome Taxonomy DataBase classification. Type genus: Methylohalomonas Sorokin et al. 2007VP.
