Abstract
IN CONTRAST TO physical objects and living things, software doesn’t deteriorate with the passage of time. While we age and our shoes fall apart, digital storage ensures that the software’s bits stay immutable. And yet, software needs substantial maintenance over time, owing to changes in its environment.1 Advancing technology and new requirements prompt us to modernize the software to keep it relevant.
