Abstract
With the development of automated vehicles (AVs) technology comes the opportunity to use it in the context of public transport (PT) systems. In this article, we aim to map the potential applications of AVs in the realm of PT and point for potential impacts of such applications. Planning for PT with AVs is still in its infancy; however, it's already possible to understand that support to existing mass PT is the most desired function for these future systems given the challenges in providing first/last mile connections at a cost-effective way. Cities are not yet putting forward regulations and specific policies regarding implementing AVs in their territories. Therefore, in this article, we also present a series of important questions that they are facing pointing for tentative answers that can help them steer such policies in the future.
