Schroefstraal tegen kademuur: stroomsnelheid- en erosiemetingen

Translated title of the contribution: Propeller jet against a quay wall: flow and erosion measurements

Research output: Book/ReportReportScientific

Abstract

Ship propellers induce jets with high flow velocities. If the jet is directed to a quay wall the jet will be directed downwards to the bed in front of the qual wall. Erosion and scouring of bed material may occur and this may endanger the stability of the quay wall. The report describes in-situ measurements carried out in the Port of Rotterdam in order to obtain insight into the flow velocities in the jet and the erosion of bed material. Furthermore, existing design formulas are compared with the measurement results.
