Abstract
The application of fracture mechanics to predict the settlement damage in historical structures is presented in this paper from which useful and practical design information can be derived. Various continuum crack models are tested in a large-scale façade problem. Some observations in numerical results indicate the need for reliable numerical techniques to handle snaps and jumps in load-displacement response. In addition, it is investigated whether the inclusion of long-term creep improves the cracking response.
