Abstract
Using Pulsed Laser Deposition, we find that a high background pressure favours the formation of growth spirals on YBa2Cu3O7-δ thin films. At these elevated pressures 2D-nucleation and growth can be induced by putting the substrate well into the laser plume. We attribute this growth mode transition to a change in surface diffusivity. This confirms the close relationship between plume dynamics and surface kinetics in PLD.
